Extension Project: Work, Quilombola Territory, and Rural Education

Extension project discusses quilombola experiences and rural education.

During the months of October and November, a series of activities will take place at the Vitória da Conquista campus as part of the extension project “Work, Quilombola Territory, and Rural Education.” The project aims to foster reflection on the processes of social life production among workers in quilombola territories, addressing the historical process of territory formation, the struggles and resistance, as well as the educational experiences around land and labor.

The action is divided into three meetings. The first session, titled “Quilombola Territories: Struggle and Resistance,” will be held in Auditorium 1 of the Medicine Module, coordinated by Professor Aline Farias Fialho. It will feature coordinators from the five Quilombola Communities of Tanhaçu, Ituaçu, and Barra da Estiva: Tucum, Pastinho, Baixa Funda, Camulengo, and Ginete. This first session will take place on October 22 at 9 a.m.

In the second activity, “Academic and Cultural Experiences: Listening to Quilombola Territories,” professors, researchers, and undergraduate and graduate students from Uesb and other partner institutions will visit quilombola territories from November 3 to 4 for an immersion to learn about the social practices and processes of territory formation, as well as the struggles and resistance of workers in these Quilombola Territories.

The event will conclude on November 5 with the session “Society, Labor, and Nature in Quilombola Territories.” This session will feature researchers Lia Tiriba from the Federal University of Fluminense (UFF), Professor Maria Clara Bueno Fischer from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Doriedson Rodrigues from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), and Antônio Thomaz Júnior from the São Paulo State University (Unesp – Presidente Prudente). The session will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Personal Development Center (CAP) Auditorium in Vitória da Conquista.

Certificates of participation will be issued throughout the event, and a feedback form will be available at the end of the activities. For any questions, please contact the Geography Department at ccgeo@uesb.edu.br.
