The Course lasts for 24 (twenty-four) months, with the subjects taught on the Jequié campus and, in some special cases, optional subjects are taught in Itapetinga or Vitória da Conquista Campi. To defend the dissertation, the master student must have taken all mandatory subjects and optional subjects of interest in order to total, at least, 22 credits and 330 hours.
Currently, the PGQUI has concept 3 by CAPES and its teaching staff consists of 15 permanent professors (DP) and 02 collaborating professors, including 3 CNPq productivity research fellows.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
Offer a Postgraduate Course at the academic Master level in Analytical Chemistry, capable of training highly qualified human resources able to act in an ethical and professional manner, with conditions to decide and innovate in the production of knowledge and technology in Chemistry and its border fields.
The Postgraduate Program in Chemistry at UESB has as its main specific objectives:
a) Enrich the scientific-professional skills and competences of graduates in chemistry and related fields through the development of research studies;
b) Train highly qualified human resources, endowed with a critical vision, capable of acting in an inter and multidisciplinary way, as competent professionals, in solving public and private issues related to Chemistry;
c) Participate effectively in the production of scientific, technological and humanistic knowledge, having as a horizon the demands of society and its quest to improve life quality;
d) Improve the conditions of teaching, research and extension, by raising financial resources from research promotion agencies;
e) Meet the regional demand, taking into account the lack of postgraduate courses in Chemistry and specialized professionals in Chemistry and related areas in the Southwest region of Bahia;
f) Carry out extensive multidisciplinary environmental studies in the regions of Rio de Contas and Rio Jequiriçá Hydrographic Basins, located near the UESB;
g) Conduct chemical, biological and pharmacological studies with plants (leaves, fruits, seeds, peels) with technological potential for new products;
h) Intensify studies involving food security, mainly those coming from agricultural production in the Southwest region of Bahia;
i) Produce methods, technologies, processes and products that promote sustainable development in the Southwest region of Bahia and, therefore, in the State of Bahia and in Brazil;
j) Increase the exchange of UESB with other public and private institutions in national and international territory;
k) Act as a partner and adviser to the public school system through joint actions in favor of Chemistry education, including projects for the extension and dissemination of Science, as well as collaborating with educational methodologies and resources to improve basic Chemistry education.
