The Postgraduate Program in Physical Education (Stricto Sensu) was established through the initiative of a group of faculty members from different departments at the Southwest Bahia State University (Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia – UESB), Jequié Campus, and the Department of Health Sciences at the Santa Cruz State University (Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz – UESC), Ilhéus Campus. Since 2016, these faculty members have worked together with the goal of establishing the first Master’s Program in Physical Education in the state of Bahia.

With a faculty composed of graduates from nationally recognized graduate programs of excellence, the UESB/UESC Postgraduate Program in Physical Education (PPGEF-UESB/UESC) has as its primary objective to contribute to the education of researchers with extensive expertise in human movement and health, demonstrating strong leadership, innovation, and social responsibility.

In addition, the PPGEF-UESB/UESC has the following specific objectives:

• To prepare professionals qualified for teaching and research in the field of human movement and health, enhancing their scientific expertise with a focus on science, technology, innovation, and development;
• To qualify human resources to understand the complexity of issues within the field of human movement and health, with the capacity to seek solutions across their multiple dimensions;
• To produce high-quality scientific knowledge focused on human movement and health, addressing the specific characteristics of the population of the state of Bahia—including biological, psychological, social, and educational aspects;
• To promote knowledge through technical and scientific events, fostering interaction among students, researchers, and professionals in in the field of human movement and related areas;
• To support state and regional research aimed at developing new technologies and addressing challenges in the field of Physical Education;
• To meet the existing demand for master’s-level education, contributing to the quality of higher education in the state of Bahia;
• To enable the Médio Rio de Contas, Southern Coast, and Extreme Southern regions of Bahia to become centers for the production and dissemination of technology and knowledge in the concentration area of ​​human movement and health.

Accordingly, graduates of the PPGEF-UESB/UESC are expected to be qualified to conduct research and teach in higher education; capable of contributing to the production of scientific evidence in the field of human movement and health; skilled in applying scientific knowledge for the benefit of the community; and equipped with a critical perspective and interdisciplinary competencies in Physical Education.
