Production of Geographical Space
The Graduate Program in Geography focuses on the Production of Geographic Space. Based on epistemology and geographic thought, this area encompasses socio-spatial expressions, research, and teaching of geography. It seeks to interpret the logic of spatial production and territorial, socio-territorial, and socio-environmental configurations at different scales.
The Production of Space concentration area aims to understand geographic space through the production/reproduction of complementary and contradictory socio-spatial dynamics. It focuses on critical reflection on the process of spatial production in contemporary society. This area of concentration includes studies related to the analysis of the structures and physical processes of nature and the anthropogenic consequences that impact the dynamics of landscape and territory.
The program’s primary objective is to contribute to the training of faculty and researchers specialized in the proposed field and in areas that develop territorial research, geographic space research, urban space research, and other areas related to geographic knowledge. This enriches the research capacity of program students and thereby enables greater expertise in interventions regarding land use and spatial production.
The program’s objective is to promote the continuing education of faculty and researchers, enabling their participation in advanced research and higher education; to train them to develop teaching, territorial, urban, and environmental planning activities, working with governmental and non-governmental institutions; to create alternatives that foster new modes of national and regional development based on integrated and integrative perspectives between science and society as a whole; and to develop studies that consider the unitary relationship between society and nature, considering different scales and approaches, prioritizing respect for the plurality of theoretical and methodological perspectives.
