Financial Aid/Grants

Firstly, Master’s and Doctorate courses have no tuition fees. The Brazilian and Bahian state finances public universities.

There are two agencies that fund the PPGREG’s Master’s and PhD research: the Bahia Research Support Foundation (FAPESB) and the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES).

The number of grants does not depend on the PPGREC, but on the research funding agencies. The selection process for awarding grants, taking into account socio-economic issues, usually takes place in February, even before enrollment, due to the deadlines of the funding agencies.

The Grants Committee is composed of two professors and a student representative, who follow the regulations of the two research funding agencies. Under no circumstances should a grant be given to a student who carries out a paid activity/job when, in the same level (Master’s or Doctorate), there is a student without a grant and who does not exercise a paid activity/job. The The Grants Committee publishes a ranking that is followed in the process of allocating grants.

It is important to note that master’s and doctoral students must defend their dissertations or theses within 24 months and 48 months respectively, without the right to an extension, as stated in our regulations.

Foreign students can obtain their grants through an inter-institutional agreement, usually based on reciprocity rules.

The monthly amount of the master’s grant is R$2,100.00 and the doctoral grant is R$3,100.00.
