Disciplines in PPGCA

Couses II PL 2025

Couse catalogue

The structure of our curriculum is based on the integration of knowledge, methods, techniques and tools within a distinctly multidisciplinary perspective. This approach is justified by our affiliation with the College of Exact, Technological and Multidisciplinary Sciences as well as the broader multidisciplinary field.

With this framework, we aim to encourage and expand opportunities for reflection and debate, and to provide Masters students with a more comprehensive, critical and up-to-date education. In addition, the curriculum has been designed to meet specific regional needs and align with our research lines.

It is important to emphasize that this process has resulted not only from internal discussions with the academic community and feedback and critique in the CAPES reports on the environmental science field and self-assessment processes, but also from the recognition of regional issues identified through informal dialogs with sectors of civil society and business, as well as provocations arising from academic and institutional events.

Accordingly, the PPGCA offers both mandatory and elective courses spread over the different semesters of the academic years, providing students with a flexible education tailored to their interests and research needs

Compulsory electives

The electives, which are seen as complementary to the students’ academic training, are currently being restructured. Most of these courses are offered with a workload of either 30 or 45 hours. Whenever appropriate, they will provide the opportunity to continue studies through a second, thematically related course with more advanced approaches. This structure allows students to deepen their understanding of the subject matter as it relates to their line of research and, in particular, their specific research topic.

The collaborative teaching format, in which courses are offered jointly by multiple faculty members, remains a core feature of the program and will continue to be encouraged.
