Research Methodology and Teaching (60h – 4 credits)
Syllabus: Theoretical-methodological assumptions of research in teaching: relationship between the object, theoretical frameworks, and research methods. Methods and knowledge production: positivism, structuralism, historical-dialectical materialism, phenomenology, post-structuralism. Research and teaching: investigative paths and methods. The school as a research field.
Teaching and Learning Theories (60h – 4 credits)
Syllabus: Study of theories that underpin the teaching and learning process in different times, dimensions, and spaces. Relationships between epistemological conceptions and pedagogical practices in Basic Education.
Research Seminar (60h – 4 credits)
Syllabus: Rewriting and collective discussion of the research proposal.
Teaching and Research I (30h – 2 credits)
Syllabus: The history of science and the formation of the researcher. Academic writing in graduate school. Bibliographic review for research. Consulting databases (thesis and dissertation catalog from CAPES, digital thesis and dissertation library, Google Scholar, Scielo, Scopus). Types of research reviews.
Teaching and Research II (30h – 2 credits)
Syllabus: The dissertation project. Data production. Presentation of research data. Ethical considerations in research. Formulation of interview guides and questionnaires. Types of research and approaches. Types of quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Cross-analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. Presentation of students’ research projects.
Teaching and Research III (30h – 2 credits)
Syllabus: Reflection on the graduate students’ research projects and exchange of experiences regarding theories, methodologies, and research topics with program faculty and invited speakers. Research colloquium with ongoing research presentations.
Teaching and Research IV (30h – 2 credits)
Syllabus: Writing and defense of the Dissertation.

Syllabus: Teaching and pedagogical work in schools. The school as a workplace. Educational policies and the organization of teaching and pedagogical work. Pedagogical practices within the school. Teacher accountability policies and teaching.
RESEARCH LINE 3:
Theoretical and Methodological Topics in Science and Mathematics Teaching (60h – 4 credits)
Syllabus: Historical and socio-cultural dimensions of science and mathematics teaching. Trends in science and mathematics teaching. The process of argumentation in science and mathematics teaching in the classroom. Materials, strategies, and teaching resources for science and mathematics education.
