The academic activities of the Graduate Program in Teaching operate on a semester system and consist of courses (required and elective), complementary activities (such as publication), teaching internships, proficiency exams in English, qualification exams, and activities related to the preparation of the Master’s Thesis.
The course curriculum is designed so that the student builds a solid foundation in the program’s area of concentration and can carry out research linked to one of the research lines, presenting it within 24 months.
The general required courses aim to provide a platform for discussions that foster the development of knowledge in the program’s area of concentration. They also guide the bibliographic research on the project topics, contributing to the practice of systematizing and questioning the readings conducted and to understanding the theoretical-methodological aspects of research.
The required courses in the research line allow the graduate student to engage with the theoretical-methodological framework of the program’s area of concentration.
Research courses offer exposure to different theoretical-methodological perspectives of the research process, understanding that teachers are also educated through research.
Elective courses provide the student with opportunities for in-depth theoretical-methodological study, focusing on their research object.
The Teaching Internship is carried out over the course of one academic semester, teaching undergraduate courses and aiming to prepare the student for teaching at the higher education level. This should preferably be conducted in courses taught by the student’s advisor. At the end, the student must prepare and submit a report on the activities carried out to the Program Secretariat.
The planned activities aim to encourage the graduate student to develop articles and/or educational products related to working with concepts and content in basic education.
The course curriculum requires the completion of 36 credits, distributed as follows:
- General Required Courses: 8 credits
- Required Courses in the Research Line: 4 credits
- Research/Orientation Courses: 8 credits
- Elective Courses: 4 credits
- Master’s Thesis: 10 credits
- Programmed Academic Activities I and II: 2 credits
